Alex Pham Wakefield is a cinematographer, producer, and educator with seven years of experience across documentary, commercial, and branded content. He has collaborated with clients including Nike, QuickBooks, FreshBooks, Gusto, Intuit, and Travel Oregon. His work ranges from directing multi-city documentary series to DPing international campaigns in Paris and London, all anchored in a story-first, human-centered approach.

Alex previously served as Head of Production for a multimillion-dollar creative agency, where he oversaw large-scale productions and mentored emerging crew members. He’s passionate about collaborative filmmaking environments and brings that same ethos into his teaching practice.

In addition to his professional work, Alex has taught filmmaking intensives for nonprofits like Outside the Frame and mentored university students through projects such as PSU’s Tracklandia. As someone who began his education at a community college before transferring to Portland State University, Alex is committed to making the film industry more accessible through mentorship and hands-on learning.

Currently, Alex is working on Ordinary Life, a short documentary series exploring the day-to-day realities of emerging creatives. One of the featured episodes follows Lost Alas, a newly formed indie band navigating creative collaboration and the struggle to get seen. He is also in production on a documentary investigating the rise in anti-Asian hate crimes in the Pacific Northwest, weaving personal stories with larger community perspectives. Alongside his filmmaking, Alex serves as Vice President of Southern Ocean Studios, a nonprofit supporting Pacific Northwest filmmakers, and is part-time faculty in the Multimedia Department at Portland Community College.
